This track is focused on exploring how GeoData and data analytics are used in an innovative way to help banking, insurance and real estate professionals.

Insurtech is becoming more and more an engine of innovation, in combination with new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.

Concrete varied use cases will highlight how GIS and Geodata analytics contribute to the welfare and wellbeing of our lives and it’s growing potential across the insurance and real estate industry.


  • GeoAI for insurance & real estate: applying machine learning techniques for better characterization of buildings and their environments - Steven Smolders, Technology director GIM (NL)

    • ​The rapid advances in (deep) machine learning applied to geodata offer the possibility to map the built-up environment in a more accurate and performant manner than ever before.
      Computer vision techniques allow the automatic mapping of building footprints, roof features, roof material and gardens.  

      When computer vision is combined with time series analyses the age of every building can be estimated. Other machine-learning techniques can be used to infer additional building properties.  
      Together this enables more precise property valuations and risk assessments.

  • Disrupting the Insurance business by new and better workflows for the middleman (agents and brokers) - the relevance of geo-data - Arvid De Coster, CEO WeGroup (NL)

    • How can external data inform the agent about things that the customer cannot estimate himself, such as surfaces of buildings or driver assistance systems?

      What can external geodata tell the agent about customer situations such as theft score, distances from a police station or train station, its type of car, ...? And is it reliable?


  • Impact of visual intelligence in natural and manmade catastrophe modelling - Eddy Van Beneden, Head GC Analytics Continental Europe Guy Carpenter CEO (FR)

    • ​Guy Carpenter acts as a mediator that stimulates the application of visual intelligence.   Visual intelligence is key attribute for augmenting data quality for the purpose of natural catastrophe modelling and bespoke modelling in man-made modelling. This data augmentation approach offers the capability to better use the different parameters influencing the results of the modelling. This results in more confidence in outcomes from models for risk management and regulatory purpose.

  • Estimation of the rebuild value via an automatic tool using geodata and AI - Thomas Couckuyt, COO Immoparse (NL)

    • ​The use of geodata and Artificial Intelligence in valuation models for mortgages, resale value and rebuild value estimates applied to the banking and insurance sector.





  • La géographie devient un élément clé de le Data Science et Data Mining 

    • Plus de 80% de toutes les données ont en quelque sorte une relation ou une composante géographique . Cela veut dire que les géodonnées et les moyens performants pour ajouter la compréhension géographique aux données apportent une grande plus-value aux entreprises et aux gouvernements. Si Géo/GIS étaient auparavant surtout des activités d’un noyau de spécialistes en GIS, Géo est devenu entretemps une partie intégrante de l’analyse des données et un élément-clé qui fournit des enseignements et des tableaux de bords qui guident les décisions (des entreprises et des gouvernements)

  • esri BeLux :  Geo en data mining beïnvloeden de beslissingen van de regeringen (NL) - Arthur Depicker

    • Regeringen (lokale besturen, intercommunales, de regionale en federale regeringen en de EU) gebruiken steeds vaker Data Analytics, Data Science en Data Mining om een beter inzicht te krijgen in de parameters en de huidige situatie en om zo betere beslissingen te nemen. Dit gebeurt in verschillende domeinen zoals mobiliteit, duurzaamheid, welvaart, jeugd, belastingen, de multiculturele samenleving, lokale economie… In deze sessie geven we inspirerende informatie over verschillende voorbeelden en use cases die u kunnen helpen om nieuwe ideeën te krijgen over hoe u Geo-Data Analytics, Data Science en Data Mining kunt gebruiken binnen uw organisatie.

  • Eurosense : Qualité des géodonnées pour des enseignements corrects (FR) - Victoria Jadot

    • Decades of innovation within the remote sensing industry have led to the emergence of high-resolution imaging sensors and LiDAR scanners. As a result, the size and complexity of geospatial datasets has been rapidly increasing. Companies are therefore required to continuously innovate their production processes to generate data-driven geospatial insights for their customers. Recent developments within the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have the potential to drastically increase the efficiency and quality of data analyses. In this presentation, Eurosense will elaborate on how AI technologies for the automatic processing of remote sensing data are developed and applied to real-world cases within a business context. Eurosense is one of the European leaders in aerial surveying and geo-data analysis and is often confronted with exceptionally large datasets and complex customer needs. The company has developed innovative workflows based on deeplearning. After discussing the general context and issues with traditional production methodologies, deep learning workflows for tree health assessments on imagery and for the classification of LiDAR point clouds will be presented, each time highlighting the efficiency gains and remaining challenges.

  • CLC (confédération luxembourgeoise du commerce): Comment un tableau de bord complet concernant l’économie locale soutient la prise de décisions dans les communes (FR) - TBD

    •  La CLC a mis en place une plateforme de données et un tableau de bord centralisés concernant beaucoup d’aspects et les met à disposition des différentes communes pour aider à la compréhension de l’économie locale et des possibilités pour renforcer la vitalité économique. Ceci est extrêmement important, vu l’influence du COVID et d’autres tendances économiques. Dans ce projet, de nombreux jeux de données sont gérés, croisés et mis à disposition par le biais de tableaux de bord interactifs et flexibles, ainsi que par des outils d’analyse.

  • KPMG : Het gebruik van Deep Insights voor de ondersteuning van de planning, budgettering en coördinatie van drinkwaternetwerken (NL) - Thomas De Ruyck

    • Een interactieve en multidisciplinaire management tool biedt belangrijke inzichten in de kwaliteit van en de investeringen in een netwerk van nutsvoorzieningen. Zo kunnen er nieuwe investeringen gepland worden, in overleg met andere nutsbedrijven, gemeenten, privébedrijven… Bovendien is het een flexibele manier om verschillende investeringsplannen te simuleren…
